“Whether you want to uncover the secrets of the universe, or you want to pursue a career in the 21st century, basic computing programming is an essential skill to learn.”

Stephen Hawking.

At Park View Academy, we believe that learning about computing is essential for preparing our students for a bright and successful future. Computing is not just about using computers; it’s about problem-solving, creativity, and understanding the technology that shapes our world. By learning computing skills, our students gain the ability to think critically, work collaboratively, and adapt to a rapidly changing digital landscape. They develop the skills to create, communicate, and explore the limitless possibilities of the digital world. We empower our pupils to become digital citizens who are not just consumers, but creators of technology, ready to make a positive impact on their future lives.

Computing is a key subject in our school because it equips students with essential skills for the future. In today’s digital age, understanding computing is like learning a new language, and it opens up a world of possibilities. It teaches problem-solving, logical thinking, and creativity, which are valuable skills for any career. By introducing computing early, we lay a strong foundation for students to adapt to the ever-evolving technology landscape and become confident, responsible, and innovative users of technology in their academic and personal lives.

At Park View Academy, we have implemented the Teach Computing scheme of learning, and have tailored it to suit the needs of our children accordingly. Pupils are exposed to new technology throughout the curriculum, from Bee-Bots in Key Stage 1, to Micro:bits in Key Stage 2, building on previously learnt steps of coding to ensure children have solid foundations of prior knowledge.

Pupils are given the opportunities to try Computing in a wide range of ways, whether it is coding, using software, or understanding online safety, our students are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in the 21st century as technology continues to advance.
